It’s Glasgow 1770 All Over Again-

First Whisky Distilled in City in 100 Years

Connoisseurs may well know that the first Glasgow distiller within the bounds of the city opened its doors in Dundashill in the last part of the 18th century, 1770 to be exact and that its single malt  heyday ended in 1902 when James Pirie was a relatively new business in St Andrews. But the wheel of history has turned once more and the city now has a fine producer of the amber nectar again. The first bottle will go on sale later this year and demand is expected to be high amongst collectors and whisky buffs. So popular that there will be an on-line ballot for the mere 5,000 bottles of single malt that have been made so far. The price tag is a hefty £100 a go. But soon they’ll have both a peated and a triple-distilled whisky, my resolve may crumble.

Whisky A Go Go

The spirit was casked some 3 years ago and the new whisky is named after the year of first production in the 18th century. I’d be keen to have a sample, but at a ton a bottle I’m not sure the missus will approve, even though she is a big a single malt fan as me and enjoyed the whisky tasting gift set I got for Christmas from my youngest. One of the Scotches was 25 years old!
