Wind Farms Generate Controversy – Mother’s Day Generates Love
Wind Farms Generate Controversy –
Mother’s Day Generates Love
We have a new wind farm about to go live any moment now and it has been the subject of much local controversy. My next door neighbours think it is a blight, but I say it is 10.8 miles away, how many people can even see 10.8 miles away? There are about a 100 of the blighters though, so you can see they aren’t particularly shy. And a new report highlights the problems about going green impacting on Scottish tourism, which is in general about 10% up last year.
New Jobs for Old
This latest study was done for Mountaineering Scotland and says that there is a drop of visitor numbers in places where the wind farms are constructed. It says there is a drop in jobs related to tourism when turbines are built in places where visitors go to see the nation’s natural scenery. But where no tourists go the farms have a beneficial effect. The report compares the trend in tourism-related employment around the wind farms and there is an average drop of 7 per cent, compared with an increase of 36 per cent for 25 wind farms not in scenic areas. Overall in Scotland there was a 15 per cent increase in jobs related to tourism.
Mother’s Day a Chance to Shine
Well I can hear you asking how does that relate to Mother’s Day, well I’ll go and get my shoe horn and tell you. We are building wind farms for the same reason we respect and love our mums. We only get one environment and we only get one mum. So we need occasionally to demonstrate that we know this and show that we are grateful for this fabulous place we live in and for that fabulous woman who gave us life. So thanks to mum and mother nature all round. Well we’ve put a few ideas together for Mother’s Day below, but don’t let it crowd your imagination, from nice mugs and lovely vases there are a heap of great things at James Pirie that any mum would treasure.
