Old favourite Rides Again –

 A Charles Rennie Mackintosh Celebration

Regular readers of this blog will know that I am a huge fan of Scotland’s favourite Charles Rennie Mackintosh and so I’m pleased to relate to you that there is now a major exhibition of his work to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth. It’ll be at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow  and it is chokablock with good stuff. The show will have more than 250 objects from the man who was both an architect and a designer.  Lots of them are coming from far and wide for the exhibition.

A Cracking Exhibition

The show is called Making the Glasgow Style and it marks the beginnings of a year long celebration of the great man. It will show to one and all just how grand the ideas and execution of those ideas was. Experts reckon it’ll be a stunner.  JRM was born in Glasgow in 1868 and he became a leading figure in first the Scottish Arts & Crafts Movement and then the European Art Nouveau lot.  There will be stuff from Miss Cranston’s Ingram Street Tearooms which was salvaged just before the building was developed in 1971 and has not been seen in public since. I’ve only seen items from there on the BBC’s Flog It, the items were part of the Mackintosh designed tea service for the tearooms. I’ll have to sort out a visit before the exhibition closes on August 14th.

In a Fine Tradition

Well we’ve got lots of cracking stuff too.  The Botanic Blue collection by Portmeirion has a charming antique style reminiscent of a French antique toile fabric with soft blue floral motifs set against a fresh white background. Featuring a delicate spot background and delightful scalloped edges, Botanic Blue makes a truly perfect gift. It’s in the fine tradition of the arts and crafts movement. The Botanic Blue cream jug has been very well reviewed and is a beauty! And it has nearly a fiver off, can’t be bad! Two exclamations in the same paragraph, oh dear! J
