Where’s the Beef?-

Meat Free Monday?

Oh no I hope the wife doesn’t see this particular bit of news. I had an eye operation over the winter and so was a little less active and I’ve put on a bit of timber. Nothing much, about 7 lbs, but enough for the trews to feel a little tighter and knowing looks from ‘her,’ with the occasional remarks like ’you’ve had your tea’ looking me up and down. Because now in Edinburgh  at the stirrings of that former mop top Paul McCartney they are going meat free in their primary schools every Monday. The pupils will be offered first off chunky vegetable curry with steamed rice and Quorn dogs with chunky wedges.  I am not sure how they make Quorn, but I bet it involve lots of goo and no bacon whatsoever.

No Bringing Home the Bacon

But I know that lots of little ones no longer know where meat comes from and what we have to do to get it and that we all have to be environmentally aware so I guess it’s a good thing that once a week the bairns get a meat free day. I’m just worried I do too.  They’ve always said that if the Chinese billions get a taste for meat the environment will suffer greatly. Meat Free Monday was started in 2009 Monday by popster singer Sir Paul McCartney and his daughters Stella and Mary. Paul’s late wife Linda was a staunch vegetarian and she wanted all to try it.  After all eating processed meat is meant to be bad for us. So we should sometimes do without- so I am told. Stern look across the room here.

No Mincing Words
