Before Bootleggers Roamed USA Whiskey Stash Discovered-
Pre -Prohibition Booze Bonanza
I’m a true Scotch fan, but every now and then I’ll take a nip of a decent American whiskey and enjoy the change so I was surprised as anyone to hear that more than 40 cases of 1914 unopened bonded whiskey had been discovered in Los Angeles. The illicit booze had been hidden during the Prohibition period in which all alcoholic drinks were banned in the USA. A time that allowed organised crime to get a foothold in America. The cases were well hidden behind a secret panel and some very strong doors by the French American owner.
Staggering Values
The interest from around the world was very intense and many of the items exceed their suggested values. Five quarts of Hermitage Pure Rye Whiskey sold for US$22,050 and 12 quarts of Old Crow Bourbon from 1912 made US$22,050. All in all the auction sale, which included other wines and spirits, made a total of just over US$3m. Blimey That’s a lot of rye!
Outstanding Value
But no matter what kind of fine whisky, or whiskey you drink or your loved ones drink the best place to pop your dram is in a James Pirie glass. We have an absolutely superb selection of fine sipping glassware in which to take the nip. And it isn’t going to cost you an arm and a leg, or even a bootleg. For example this half priced tulip shaped whisky glass is the Master Distillers and Whisky Blenders glass of choice. It was originally named a 'dock glass' due to merchants using it to nose wines and spirits at the docks. The authentic shape of the glass from Royal Scot Crystal is made in crystal not ordinary glass and is perfect for the true appreciation of all Scotch whiskies and other fine brews from around the world. But psst! Don’t tell anyone I said so, but Scotch is the best.
