Special Delivery Brings Poisonous Spider –

Peter Parker Alerted

Now to answer the kids I’m writing a story about a female spider called George who lives in the wing mirror of a Ford Focus and all the fun and games that a spider can have when it’s home its mobile and yet highly accessible. In fact I’ve gone so far as to buy some books on the beasties, one especially good one which is called ‘The Private Life of Spiders.’ So I was intrigued to here that a black widow spider has been found inside a crate at a business in the Portlethen area. The crate had been transported from America to Aberdeenshire. Now as you might know and certainly guess from its name the black widow spider is pretty venomous and although it would have difficulty killing a full sized adult it could be fatal to a child or family pet. The venom it carries is called latrotoxin and it’s pretty infamous.  By the way, Peter Parker is Spiderman in Marvel Comics.

Spidey Senses?

The Scottish SPCA destroyed the creature saying there was no home to be safely found for it in Scotland as there were severe health and safety concerns surrounding the beastie. It seems Bites from the black widow can be dangerous to humans and can cause severe muscle pain and muscle spasms, In 2013 another black widow came to Scotland in a pipe sent from America to Aberdeen, but that story had a happier ending for the spider when it was re-homed at an exotic animal rescue charity in Inverness.

World Wide Web

Now James Pirie has no exotic creatures stalking its corridors and rooms, and our web master is a chap I know well and  our storerooms must be some of the dullest in the land with only the smallest spiders and of course  the wonderfully good goods that we sell. Our prices won’t bite and you won’t find any lurkers inside our crates as we source our goods within the nation. So while you are able to take advantage of the World Wide Web and nab the odd bargain from us we know you’ll be safe within our portals. And if you fancy a nice price try the half price gift boxed Flower of Scotland whisky tasting glass. It’s nicely stylish and hand cut to boot.
