Super Spaniel Get the Needle-

Truffle Hound Gets ‘Miracle’Cure

As you get on a bit most of the body starts to hurt and they will tell you that stuff like arthritis just happens, but perhaps there will be treatment that will make it better. Well if you are a one of kind truffle hunting dog then you will be first in the queue. Max a seven year old  truffle-hunting dog is back at work after a £5,000 plasma treatment to ease his arthritis. Woof! He is a English springer spaniel and very valuable as he is one of only seven dogs that roam in Scotland’s woodlands sniffing out the expensive blighters. Truffles are a fungus and an immense luxury that you’ll have to fork out £1,300 for a kilo. Max is so good that last year he nosed out the nation’s rarest truffle, the summer burgundy. I am now expert on these fun guys, old joke there from the 80s, so I looked them on the inter web. “Burgundy truffles have a dark, rough skin with large, diamond-shaped points, and when cut display light coffee-coloured flesh veined with white. They are lighter and less intense than the black winter truffle offering a delicate, hazelnut-like aroma. Think of them as a mature summer truffle.” I do I promise I do.

Meet the Fun Guys

Back to Max. He was for the old spaniel’s home and a life of less productivity until his owner in Lasswade, Midlothian decided that Max’s special talent decided on the hugely expensive plasma injections. She’d tried painkillers, but they were short term only. Max had platelet-rich plasma injected into his arthritic joints.  His own cells were harvested and then grown in a lab and injected back in to his hip, knees and spine. The treatment works by turning off the inflammation, allowing joints to heal. It’s almost magic! And just six weeks after treatment Max is back to his tail wagging best sniffing among the thousands of local trees. I must refine my truffle hunting skills!

Every Day in Every Way

Now here at James Pirie we don’t have a lot to do with fungus at £1,300 a kilo instead concentrating on giving you everyday good value for money and decent service that leaves the customer happy. But we do like spaniels and of course long walks in the forests when we can get there, especially if there is no rain. What we also like is a special offer and at the moment we have plenty of those. If you’ve just decided to save a few bob on summer truffles, but still fancy pushing the boat out try this wonderful art deco champagne bucket tastefully boxed at half price. It’s the perfect way to keep your bubbles cool. Try delicious Aldi champagne too that will save a few pennies too, it tastes like the expensive stuff.
