Ferry Nice -Scotland Faces a New Dunkirk and Bargains Ahoy!
Yes it’s happening at last, well almost certainly happening, and I don’t mean the James Pirie Sale. It is the ferry service direct to France from the nation’s capital. The new Forth Green Port is set to host a terrific new service to the French seaport of Dunkirk and it is designed to be launched in 2027. So not in time for this year’s holidays, but soon enough. No more long slow slog down the motorway network, instead there will be a leisurely 20 hour sea voyage to the site of one the great escapes of the Second World War. There were discussions about having a permanent border post in Rosyth, but they seem to have been overcome and the auld alliance will work again.
This service will be a boon to tourists and hauliers alike and will no doubt bring back memories of the earlier ferry to Zeebrugge which collapsed and closed some 16 years ago. It is expected that the ship will run 3 times a week and will be capable of carrying over 50,000 passengers a year to the delights of La Belle France. That will be a shot in the arm for the local economy with jobs and tourist spending.
