Will Loch Ness Run Dry?

The Loch Ness monster is a handy driver of tourism so let’s hope that she exists and can become one of the wonders of the world, but the beast would be in danger at the moment anyway as Loch Ness has a serious drought problem. It probably hasn’t escaped your notice that it hasn’t rained much lately and with water being drained away for hydro electric power there’s concern about the water levels of Loch Ness and the River Ness. And it’s particularly bad for anglers and for the health of the River Ness.

Records began in 1990 and the levels are the lowest since then and officially the level is “low.” Significant areas of the Highlands are deemed as at significant risk of water shortage and all this so early in the year.  And of course we thought that in anywhere as wet as Scotland water shortages would never happen. Naturally as I write this nature will fight to prove me wrong and we’ll have weeks of interminable rain, but nothing so far!

And the temperatures are set to soar in the coming weeks as we get ready for another hot summer. People like the wife, with red blonde hair who can’t be out in the sun for any time will have to become accustomed to long sleeves or being slathered in sun cream all the season and maybe we’ll have to go back to advice about sharing baths and showers to save water.

I suppose now is the time when I should remind you it’s Father’s Day on the 18th June and you’d better get your skates on to get that lovely gift packaged up and ready to go. Now there’s a half price offer on the lovely stag engraved British Wildlife - Kintyre Whisky Tumbler in a classy gift box.
