When is a Delivery Not a Delivery?
Come on Baby Light My fire
We have friends in Carcassonne in the south of France and we love visiting the place and went there for our honeymoon and it’s one of the few places that it’s okay to fly direct to and we pop there when we can. And this time there was an even stronger reason than normal to visit. It was a fire place. We have a fantastically efficient German log burner which with the current cost of gas and lekky have made it imperative to use the logs we have locally sop we can keep the costs of heating down in the upcoming winter. So we thought easy peasy just contact the German manufacturer and they’ll pop it in the post and that will be the end of it, but oh no!
We should have had a clue when we ordered an easy to use pop up gazebo from a German supplier just before the deadline for exiting the EU and it arrived slightly damaged just after the deadline. We enquired whether we could return it or receive replacements parts and they went into to meltdown: No they couldn’t possibly take the gazebo back, but they would give the damaged one to us free of charge and the refund would be with us the next day. So now on the days where we can use this pop up freebie gazebo. Thank you Germany!
But there’s always a rub and the German log burner manufacturer in Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein is adamantine in that they do not deliver outside the EU. So we had a wheeze, beware of those, we would order the parts to be delivered to our friends in Carcassonne and we could pay the excess and bring the parts back with us on the plane. Canny, yes? Well no. We ordered the parts 7 weeks ago with a three week delivery time, max 6 weeks. Well we waved bye bye to our friends in the town yesterday and guess what, no fireplace bits, oh and by the way the darn plane was late out. They’ll try for November say the distribution company, try! I may have to get the friends send it to other friends in France who might be driving home for Christmas. There’s many a slip twixt cup and lip.
