Sir Andy Murray Aces Retirement- So Does James Pirie

Any casual reader of this blog could tell you of my admiration for the Great Scot, Sir Andy Murray, possibly the nation’s finest athlete and this week he’s in Eastbourne as I begin my trek to the tennis tournament there. The favourite son of Dunblane had made a terrific transition from player to retiree and now he’s coaching the British tyro Jack Draper, who has made a return to competition. Perhaps I’ll catch a glimpse of the great man at the tournament.

Andy played his last match on the Centre Court at Wimbledon with his older brother Jamie , who is now a tournament director. He did the big one at Queen’s last week. So both brothers have adapted well to life without a green ball.  However, Andy still hankers after a career as a golf pro playing the majors and he has made stunning progress at the nation’s invention, golf. He’s also become something of an art lover and he likes to collect British paunters.

World Number One Andy won two Olympic Gold medals and three Grand Slam tournaments in his time, but he also pushed himself a bit too far and needed a new space age hip to allow himself some small future in sport . Next week Sir Andy will be at Wimbledon with Draper.  And guess what I’ll be there too with the missus!
