Rebus Redux
In the week that the governor of Massachusetts jokingly legalised the sale and consumption of haggis in his state in order to celebrate the Tartan Army’s love affair with Boston I can report that another beloved Scottish icon is back. Yes it’s that Edinburgh Noir hero Rebus. It’s been through the mill a bit the now and has its third incarnation of the down at heel copper with Richard Rankin playing John Rebus in the new adaptation of the novels. Although Ken Stott was always my curmudgeonly favourite.
And in with the award winning actor is a plethora of screen talent from across the acting spectrum. Holby City and Taggart star John Michie has joined Brian Ferguson, who plays Rebus's younger brother Michael, and Lucie Shorthouse, who plays DC Siobhan Clarke. Michie, those with a longer memory will know played the part of DI Robbie Ross in STV's long running and much missed detective drama Taggart. Although it must be admitted that the Burma born actor is no spring chicken as he heads into his 70th year. Rebus has picked up a series of awards over the years an it’s a welcome return for a firm favourite of the police genre.
But here at James Pirie we have old favourites too that will just as welcome in any household as Ian Rankin’s hero. Take a gander at the lovely to hold and thistle inspired Flower of Scotland Whisky Tumblers from Royal Scot Crystal. They come in a superb presentation box and have free shipping and free gift wrapping when you tick the box at check out. According to the description and they are never wrong, they are “More than just a glass, it's a piece of art, designed to enhance the experience of enjoying your favourite dram.” Couldn’t put it better myself.
