Ready Spready Go - Stay Home to Shop
We are on the third Amber weather warning of the festive season here and it is only January 3rd, but snow and ice are on the cards. We are not really set up as a nation for snow despite the charming tradition of naming our snow ploughs. It’s a tradition that goes all the way back to 2006, so that’s nearly 20 years: A mere sneeze to a company like James Pirie which was founded in 1890. The snow plough names are a rich demonstration of Scottish humour. There’s William Wall-Ice after the national hero, Tam O’Salter, Gonna Snow Dae That, Oor Chilly, Gritney Spears, my favourite and Spreddie Van Halen. There’s also Buzz Iceclear, Melter Skelter, Sleetwood Mac and Yes Sir Ice Can Boogie. And Ready Spready Go, Frosty the Snow Plough and Grit and Bear it and finally Sled Zeppelin. Gritney Spears is my fave, because I once spent time with her family in Kentwood Louisiana before she really blew up. Did you know her grandmother was a G I Bride, who met her future husband when he was stationed in the UK in World War 2.
Now if you want to feel properly cold have a look at the picture above which is me in some serious bad weather, but properly dressed for it and with spiked ice grips for the snow and ice.
