Whut! Sunburned Dolphins and Scotland to Host Alternative Olympic Games –

Global Warming Headlines Gift Olympics to Scotland

‘Whut! I cannot believe it!’ In the words of Victor Meldrew it seems that the world has gone mad. Now I knew of a young dolphin that they called “Spirtle was in trouble,” no doubt because it had to go to ‘hos-spirtle,’ he he he. When the little thing was stranded out of water on mudflats at the Cromarty Firth back in May it got badly sunburnt. The young dolphin was stranded for near 24 hours.  But the beast was refloated and has since been seen with a heck of a sunburn, but otherwise doing well. And she was spotted off Moray Firth recently alive and kicking.

Sunscreen and Scotland

Now I can get that. A dolphin isn’t designed to stuck on mud flats and the sun is the enemy in that situation, but now this big yellow thing in the sky we so seldom see is to become a thing of the future. According to new research

Scotland could host every other Olympic games by the 22nd century thanks to climate change, according to research by the school of public health at the University of California, Berkeley, it is entitled The Last Summer Olympics? It posits the theory that the northern hemisphere in the latter part of this century will be mostly too hot for the summer Olympics.

Northern Climes Will Be Ideal

The research predicts that by 2085 only 33 cities will be cool enough in summer to have competitors perform without risking heatstroke. And scientists predicted that by the 2100s only Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and Dublin would be capable of hosting the games, which would have Scotland hosting the games every 8 years. Well I’ll be blowed! The midges will be the size of robins.

Predictions, Predictions and Fact

Well that may make you want to sit down and have a stiff drink, probably with the wind howling around the front doorstep and the sleet ready to return after the rain. It is difficult to imagine some of the changes that are on the way, but it isn’t hard to imagine the savings currently on offer in our whisky gifts, because they are very real. All this prediction leaves me in need of a dram.
