A Million Quid of Whisky down the Drain – A Scottish Tragedy
A Million Quid of Whisky down the Drain –
A Scottish Tragedy
It is a story to make a strong, whisky loving man, weep. After a major leak some 60,000 litres of Whisky worth a £1 million flooded into the ground from the Loch Lomond Distillers warehouse in Ayrshire’s Catrine. The company store the wonder brew in giant vats and one developed a leak which went unnoticed for some time.
The Sink of Depravity?
This loss of the Scotch, some 85,000 bottles worth was also a cause of concern for the environment people. Luckily and sadly, most of the whisky sank into the ground and the rest went into the River Ayr. It was feared that the leak posed a threat to the local wildlife, especially the fishes.
No Fishes Were Harmed in this Tragedy
The leak happened in June of this year, but has only just come to light as the Health and Safety Executive were investigating. It is the second time in five years that the plant has sprung a leak of this sort and the whisky maker has been told to tighten up on the security and safety procedures.
We Take It All Seriously
Now here at James Pirie we would take the loss of any Scotch very seriously and almost had to have to have a dram to feel better about this major incident in Ayrshire. But hearts have settled and of course i should tell you of our whisky gifts that give the best stage to the magic nectar.
