First Piper Travels the World –

Wherever You Are Don’t Forget June 18th

When I read about the laddie trying to pipe in every country in the world I was rather excited and thought I should find out more about it. As avid readers of this blog know I am more than fond of a bit of piping, even to the point of listening to a  the US heavy metal rock band called Korn who incorporate the pipes into their music with their lead singer, Jonathan Davies, playing the instrument on occasion. It was an experiment that didn’t last long I can tell you. It was a more uplifting experience to find out about Ross OC Jennings who styles himself the ‘First Piper’ and whose ambition it is to play in every country. He first started learning the bagpipes aged 13 at school in China, where his parents lived.  This made him a must for every whisky tasting and Burns Night in Shanghai - which put a bit of loose change in his pocket and served to generate a love of travel.

The Pipes and the Penguins

After college at the University of Edinburgh the ‘First Piper’ idea came to him and he wanted to be the first to play the bagpipes in Antartica, but found out he was about 95years late with the first piper photographed on the ice shelf there way back in 1921. It isn’t known if the penguins are connoisseurs of the skirl of the pipes. So he decided not to be beaten but to combine his love of piping with his fondness for adventure travel and he started on his quest to be the ‘First Piper’. Since then he’s travelled to some 60 countries and has more slated according to his blog. The most intriguing picture is one of him is in kilt and Arab head dress walking into the wilds of the desert. Well I hope the laddie remembers that Father’s day is the 18th of this month and to get something in the post now.

Wherever You Are Take a Moment Now

Well you don’t have to walk alone into the desert, or play the pipes in every country to get our attention as our excellent customer service will tell you. So wherever you are in the world take a moment to think about fathers and their day. Ross Jenning’s father is Irish and a bit wry about his son’s leanings to his Scottish not Irish heritage, so on June 18th what a good day to do something nice for your pa. I wouldn’t go so far as to say send Irish whiskey, but something thoughtful. And if you want thoughtful and affordable for that very special day, then look no further.
