Scotch Is Now an Investment –

Record Sums Paid for Water of Life

Now I just like a dram, and of course the finer the drop the better, but I didn’t think people could make a living out of trading the amber nectar. But bottles of rare whisky are going like hot cakes in the multitude of auction sites and on average now fetch £286 a bottle. This year has seen a trebling of the market in 2016. And naturally the spike in interest has come from the USA and Asia. Some £2.8 million was spent on rare whisky in the second quarter in 2016. While between April and June this year, 21,617 bottles were sold at auction for almost £6.2 million.

Whisky Prospers for First Time since 2011

There are numerous online auctions sites and recently traditional rare whisky retailers have set up their own auction sites and both of these have ensured the market is rising quickly. The Scotch Whisky Association said sales of Scotch whisky in 2015 rose by £153 million to a massive £4 billion in 2016.  Whisky exports are up by 4 per cent in a year the first year since 2015 when production and exports have been up.

Whisky Gifts a Great Investment?

And if you have bought some beautiful Scotch from an online retailer or a traditional shop then you will know the benefit of drinking the fluid from a very decent glass. So if you are a whisky lover, or want to give a gift to a Scotch aficionado or even someone like me who just likes the occasional deoch and doris, one for the road at bedtime. I like the Flower of Scotland designs.
