Welcome Back Sir Andy –

Queens, Eastbourne and Wimbledon?

Well I timed my trek to Eastbourne wrongly and I managed to miss out on seeing Sir Andy’s return to doubles tennis on the south coast and his eventual defeat by Cabal/Farah who beat the Melo/Murray  combo 6-2, 6-4.However, I did see, on the telly of course, the match were he and Feli Lopez won the Queens title and all without pain. So the agony is back, but only for Andy’s legion of loyal fans. Yes it is wonderful to watch him, but we always have to suffer as we inhale his progress in every tournament. I was delighted for the very friendly Feliciano Lopez too when he won two titles in a day and all at the extreme age, for tennis, of 37 years old.  We spent Sunday evening whooping around the TV set I can tell you, before climbing into the car for the long haul to the English south coast.

Sir Andy Bows in and Out

We had centre court tickets and so were guaranteed some crackers, but found out that Andy wasn’t playing until the following day, when we’d only be smoke and old crisps on the motorway. It was a typical British seaside day and we had a long interruption for drizzle at one point which allowed us to queue for a very long time for crisps and sandwiches. I couldn’t drink, what with the drive home, even stopping for a night’s rest.  We saw Verdasco and Milman,   Pliskova and a Russian women I hadn’t seen before Gasparyan and Caroline Wozniacki and Klisters. Some very good tennis indeed! Then when I went to get some carrot cake and coffee for the missus and I got locked out of the Cameron Norrie and the ‘neverso’ charming Jeremy Chardy. By the time I got back in the heavens had opened and we sat and drank our hot drinks with the raindrops making the cake go soggy, play abandoned. A bit disappointing, but here I am back and dreaming of Sir Andy at Wimbledon. Something nobody thought possible.
