Breaking Down Set to Be More Expensive

If you break down on the motorway or have an accident and have to be removed then stand by for a whopping 25% increase in vehicle removal rates. The current charge for a vehicle removal is £150 under the Removal, Storage and Disposal of Vehicles regulations. And anti-social drivers can have their car seized at a cost of £105 to the owners. But new proposals by the Scottish government have this to rise to £190. If you have an accident then to take the car is off the road the charge will rise from £300 at the moment to £380, ouch!

 Even Removal Is Pricey

That’s a 25% hike. The £150 removal charge will become £190 if you are hauled away somewhere safe, if it’s a bit tricky that’ll be near £400. I don’t know if they charge VAT too! Scots police have the power to remove a vehicle which has been parked illegally or is causing an obstruction or may pose a danger, indeed more than 16,000 vehicles were removed by the Police last year. And over 8,000 were seized through lack of road tax, licence or insurance. In those cases the cars usually get carted off to be crushed. I remember one guy in England had his Lamborghini crushed in those circumstances,  a definite ‘ow-ee.’ The charges were last revised in 2005
