Bake Off Is Offski –

The Show That Launched a Million Brownies Leaves BBC

Mel and Sue aren’t going for the dough and Paul and Mary haven’t risen yet. A fact which leaves Great British Bake Off fans desperate to know what the future holds now Channel 4 has prised the show off the BBC.  We are all holding our breaths, but baking fans in Scotland had their very own Cake Fest to celebrate the magic of the mixer and oven and I tell you some of the things that went on took some crust.

 Taking the Rise

The Skye Bridge and Dumbarton Castle are among some of Scotland's buildings to have been recreated in cake form in an edible map of the nation, a real treat for the sweet toothed among us. A woman from Glenrothes reproduced Falkland Palace in a cake form.  Both amateur and professional bakers took part in Stirling's Cake Fest as part of the 2016 Festival of Architecture and Design. The organisers cannily drew up a short (crust) list of buildings, a hundred in all, that they would like to see in cake form and the bakers duly obliged.

Stirring the Mix

The woman who made Dumbarton Castle said she had spent weeks making Madeira cake for the project and almost two full days putting it together. She said it was in honour of Jackie Stewart the retired Formula 1 driver and ex world champion who is from Dumbarton. The Falkland Palace was done by a certain Ms Barclay, complete with brickwork and coats of arms, no doubt it was baking you can bank on!

No Need to Scrape the Bowl

As Ken Dodd might say, “Tiers for Souvenirs,” without the spelling correction on, but we really do have some grand stuff for baking enthusiasts. The Port Meirion two tier cake stand, ah yes now you see where the bad joke came from, has nearly a tenner off. So while GBBO is offski to bring uncertainty into your TV viewing habits, we merely take off money off the price, just to make life a little bit better for you.
