He Didn't Mention Valentine's Day, Again Did He?

There’s whole debate about log burners at the moment as to whether they are healthy or appropriate, but we love ours and it’s been the saving of us this winter and it is very modern and as clean as possible. As we are an upside down house, beside the sea it’s been on all this winter to keep our gas and lekky down and it is mightily romantic to curl up before a fire of an evening. Plus knowing we are NOT going to be faced with a monster bill at the end of the winter. The bedrooms can be pretty chilly though! Maximum duvets are called for!

Getting spares for the log burner have been a nightmare as I might have told you, it’s a German burner and they don’t like exporting here anymore, so our spares are now currently sitting in Carcassonne, France, with friends who will now have to arrange to ship it to GB. But we here at James Pirie have no such problems  with shipping and we are proud of our fine tradition of service, dating back to 1890 as it does.

But that date pales in comparison to the first English language Valentine which is in the British Library in London. It goes back to February 1477, and is a love letter written by Margery Brews to her fiancé John Pasto, that’s a long, long time ago. That’s what they call a segue! And this is the last time I will mention Valentines on this blog this year, I promise. My missus’s birthday is just before the 14th so I’ve already bought the present, but don’t let your present for the day be something rushed from the petrol station or the Co-op, make it something memorable.
