Give a Smile for Christmas
I don’t know about you, but I’m sitting in my office and cold. The sea outside is a decided gunmetal grey and the air hangs heavy with moisture and the threat of strong winds and storms at the weekend. I could do with something to smile about. The winds are so strong nowadays that I’ve put up angled supports for the fences and hidden them behind foliage as I’m tired of replacing fence panels. It seems to work so far, but it is a bit ugly. We’ll see when the next blow comes and the several after that. The weather has certainly been brutal as of late.
We all need a bit of brightness, a gleam in the dark and an unexpected smile from a passer-by. The postie has started smiling too, but that’s because he reckons Christmas tips are in the offing. We often have a chinwag about tennis, but he’s not such a big fan of Sir Andy Murray as I am and that alone makes his Christmas gratuity a bit smaller from me. The missus and I don’t do the full Christmas lunch kind of thing, it’s a headache from start to finish, even though we are both very good cooks. We like to spend the day with the sea’s bounty and an absolute luxury, a fine lobster each. We can’t afford to push the boat out very often, but on the missus’s birthday, the wedding anniversary and the festive season we go and put the seas in season. It puts the widest of smiles on our faces and Christmas lunch takes no more than half an hour to prepare, including making my own butter dip and Marie Rose sauce.
